FINISH: 15th
LAPS: 200 / 200 (running)

Post Race Highlights:
· Joey Logano and the GameStop team qualified 12th for Friday evening’s event at Texas Motor Speedway after struggling with a loose car during time trials.
· It look only two laps for Logano to break into the top-10 and he rode around eighth early before the first pit stop at lap 48 to try and improve on a car that was terribly loose into the corners.
· The No. 20 GameStop pit crew had great stops all night long and on several occasions, got Logano out one or more positions ahead of where they came in the pits.
· Around lap 75, Logano reported that the car was getting looser and looser and he was doing all he could “to just try and hang on.” During this stretch, he fell back as far as 15th.
· On lap 90, the GameStop team decided to make wholesale changes to the No. 20 Toyota, including changing a shock, adding rubbers and making dramatic wedge adjustments.
· Logano reported 20 laps later that the changes didn’t seem to do anything to the car’s handling, so on the next stop, the team made more changes, including adding nose weight and dropping the track bar. During that stop, Logano lost a lap.
· Late in the race, Logano was able to get himself back on the lead lap, but the car’s handling never really improved and he struggled home for a 15th-place finish.
Joey Logano - Photo Credit: Jared C. Tilton / Getty ImagesLogano’s Post-Race Thoughts:
“I don’t really know what happened with the GameStop Toyota tonight. We just lost the handle early on the car and absolutely nothing that we tried worked. By the end of the night, they got the car handling maybe 20-percent better than it was in the beginning, but that’s not a lot considering some of the major adjustments that we made during the race. You can’t change shocks, add nose weight and other things and not change the handling of the car more than that. We will have to take a look at the car and see if there is something wrong or what. Sad part is, if we hadn’t lost a lap, I think we could have finished sixth or seventh.
“It’s really disappointing because I want to get a win here in Texas for GameStop. They always bring a lot of people to these races and it would be good to get to celebrate with them in Victory Lane at some point in their homestate. This was not the showing they deserved. We just really need to figure out what happened between practice and the race. The car was decent in practice. But something dramatically changed between practice and the race. We will go back to the drawing board and figure it out I’m sure. Just hate it for GameStop tonight.”

UFC on Fox 1 Prelim Results: Ben Henderson claims Lightweight Title shot in fantastic win against Clay Guida

Ben Henderson and Clay Guida had everything on the line on Saturday at UFC on Fox 1, with the winner set up for a title shot against Frankie Edgar in 2012. Neither wanted to relinquish that shot to the other, and it showed in fantastic 15 minute fight.

Henderson ultimately earned the unanimous decision with scores of 29-28, 30-27, and 30-27, but Guida hung with him in each and every round to provide some of the year's most exhilarating moments in the cage.

Henderson got to work early, rocking Guida with a few punches in the first couple of minutes, but Guida returned the favor by the end of the round. In both the second and third, Henderson took Guida's back and nearly locked on a submission, only to have Guida sneak out and force Henderson to survive in the third round.

It was a fantastic effort by both fighters in Anaheim, and Henderson now makes the transition from the WEC complete as locks up a date with Edgar next year.

UFC ON FOX Bonuses: Dos Santos, Lamas, Henderson, and Guida earn an extra $65,000

The UFC handed out $65,000 bonuses to four fighters from the UFC's debut on the Fox network, with Junior dos Santos, Ricardo Lamas, Benson Henderson, and Clay Guida all taking home extra money.

Junior Dos Santos earned the evening's "Knockout of the Night" bonus, along with the UFC Heavyweight Championship, for his 64 second destruction of former champion Cain Velasquez. A strong overhand right that landed behind Velasquez's ear was the beginning of the end for the now former champ.

Ricardo Lamas won the promotion's "Submission of the Night" bonus for his second round arm triangle choke on veteran Cub Swanson. Along with the bonus, Lamas improved his UFC record to 2-0, and 6-2 under Zuffa ownership.

Benson Henderson and Clay Guida each pocketed an extra $65,000 for their "Fight of the Night." The two lightweights battled for 15 minutes, with Henderson earning winning both the fight and the next shot at UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar's championship.

This fight marks Henderson's third "Fight of the Night" between his time with the UFC and WEC, and his fourth overall post-fight bonus. Guida earned his seventh bonus in fifteen UFC fights; having earned "Fight of the Night" five times, and "Submission of the Night" two times. Guida's 2007 fight with Tyson Griffin and his 2009 fight with Diego Sanchez have both been called "Fight of the Year" by numerous sources.

UFC site coordinator Burt Watson was closer to Frazier than most. He worked for him. He was not only Joe's manager, but also a great friend. As he told MMAjunkie.com Radio, the two were practically family.

PENICK: Key moments in Zuffa history leading to Saturday's UFC on Fox debut

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

Staff08Penick_120_8.jpg
Saturday night marks the UFC's 18th birthday, and they're celebrating with the single biggest moment in the organization's history to date: the Heavyweight Championship live on Fox. In those 18 years, the Octagon has housed a number of historic fights and memorable moments, and many important milestones that have led to Saturday's first foray onto network television.

Though the early years of the UFC created the brand and began the development of what would become the sport of mixed martial arts, the major strides bringing the sport and the UFC to where it is heading into this weekend began with Zuffa purchasing the promotion back in 2001. With that purchase as a starting point, let's take a look at a timeline of key moments for the UFC in bringing them to this historic network debut.

May 4, 2001 - UFC 31 "Locked and Loaded": Though the first event following Zuffa's purchase of the UFC was actually February 2001's UFC 30 card, this event in May of that year was the first true Zuffa production, as they came on board briefly before UFC 130. Featuring a fantastic night of fights - including Randy Couture's 25-minute classic with Pedro Rizzo, Chuck Liddle's KO of Kevin Randleman, and Shonie Carter's infamous spinning back fist on Matt Serra - the card set the stage for the type of excitement fans would come to find in the new UFC more often than not.

September 28, 2001 - UFC 33 "Victory in Vegas": Though this will go down as one of biggest disappointments in all of UFC history, this event was a huge deal in the first year of Zuffa ownership. The event marked the organization's return to pay-per-view after being forced off years before, and it also marked the very first UFC event in Las Vegas, which has now become the organization's home base. Though the event ran long with three boring title fights and was cut off for customers at home, it was a landmark and an important date in terms of Zuffa's history with the UFC.

June, 2002 - UFC 37.5: The event took place on June 22, but it was the broadcasting of an exciting fight between Roger Huerta and Steve Berger on Fox Sports Net that made this a noteworthy mention. The UFC's first fight on cable television was the beginning of an ongoing relationship with FSN's Best Damn Sports Show Period, and helped boost the profile of the organization a little further as they continued attempting to make their way from the brink.

November 22, 2002 - UFC 40: Vendetta: The first showdown between Tito Ortiz and Ken Shamrock turned "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy" from a brash Champion into a bona fide star for the UFC, at least as far as the sport was concerned in 2002. It was somewhat of a passing of the torch moment, and Ortiz moving up in stature from this fight helped make his fights with Chuck Liddell down the line even more than what they might have been.

January 17, 2005 - The Ultimate Fighter: The UFC's now-staple reality series begins on Spike TV, introducing a crossover audience from the WWE's Monday Night Raw to the world of mixed martial arts and UFC light heavyweight stars and coaches Chuck Liddell and Randy Couture. The ensuing three months of television would culminate in our next moment.

April 9, 2005 - The Ultimate Fighter Finale: The UFC couldn't have scripted the conclusion to the first season of the reality show any better. Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar, who hadn't entirely stood out in the house during their time on the show, put on a fight the UFC deemed the best fight in their history just two years ago. It was certainly the most important, as it gained viewers as it continued on, with the back and forth brawl cementing a whole throng of new fans that would help the UFC explode in popularity.

May 27, 2006 - UFC 60 "Hughes vs. Gracie": This was the original MMA legend Royce Gracie meeting the legend-in-the-making Matt Hughes in a massive fight for the UFC. It drew over 600,000 pay-per-view buys, which at the time set a record for the UFC, a record that would be broken twice more that year, but it was a monumental fight showcasing the evolution of the sport in the 13 years since Gracie won the first UFC tournament.

December 30, 2006 - UFC 66 "Liddell vs. Ortiz II": This would be the benchmark pay-per-view for the UFC over the next several years, as they topped the one million buy mark for the first time in a grudge match between Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz. The UFC's biggest feud to date culminated in a second TKO finish for Liddell against Ortiz, and began a run of record business year after year for the next three.

September 8, 2007 - UFC 75 "Champion vs. Champion": The highest rating the UFC has received on Spike TV for an event came with this card from London, where Quinton "Rampage" Jackson defeated Pride Champion Dan Henderson in a classic five round fight. The event peaked with nearly 6 million viewers in what still remains the highest non-Ultimate Fighter drawing fight on cable for the UFC.

July 11, 2009 - UFC 100: The UFC's most successful pay-per-view event ever was stacked with a fantastic fight card, headlined by the unquestionable top draw for the organization in Brock Lesnar. The event drew nearly 1.8 million pay-per-view buys, and the culmination of two top draws, a third fight with Ultimate Fighter coaches, and having the numbered events hit three digits made for a special card that hasn't come close to being reached.

May 29, 2010 - UFC 114 "Rampage vs. Evans": After coaching the most-watched season of the Ultimate Fighter (thanks in large part to Kimbo Slice), the bout between Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Rashad Evans became the first non-title fight in UFC history to break the million buy barrier for the UFC.

November 12, 2012 - UFC on Fox 1: Exactly 18 years after the UFC came to pay-per-view for the first time, the UFC enters a new frontier on network television. Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos are set to bring forth the best Heavyweight Title fight in UFC history, and the UFC will spring into the next level of exposure for the organization as they embark on this seven-year television deal Fox.

Dana White urges fans to take part in a moment in sports history with UFC on Fox debut

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

WhiteDana_TB150_2.jpg
The UFC will make history this Saturday night with their first ever event on network television. With Cain Velasquez defending his UFC Heavyweight Championship against Junior dos Santos, the organization is expecting to make a major splash on Fox, and both Fox and the UFC have pulled out major stops for the fight.

UFC President Dana White, in a piece he penned for the Chicago Sun-Times, equated Saturday's fight to several moments in sporting history, and urged fans to be a part of history themselves with the broadcast.

"Regardless of the year, the teams or the outcome, sports give us an outlet and an opportunity to be a part of history," White wrote. "It's something we can tell our kids about decades later, something we relive with our buddies over beers as we recount where we were and how our lives have changed since.

"In just a few days, we at the Ultimate Fighting Championship are presenting fans across the world with another opportunity to be a part of sports history. This Saturday, live and free on FOX from the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., the UFC heavyweight championship of the world will be decided when undefeated Cain Velasquez defends his crown against knockout artist and number one contender Junior dos Santos."

White believes this fight to be a return to the "glory days" of combat sports on television, with the Heavyweight Championship being contested on free television. Additionally, he assures boxing fans that they won't miss out on Manny Pacquiao's fight Saturday night, either, as the UFC event will end prior to that fight's beginning. Finally, he ended his piece with one last call to fans.

"We're bringing live sporting events on network television to the next level. We wouldn't want you to miss out."

Penick's Analysis: This could very well be one of those moments, and one of those events where fans look back and ask "where were you when...?" It has the potential to be the best Heavyweight Championship fight in the UFC's - and even the sport's - history, and it almost assuredly going to be the most watched MMA fight ever. This is a huge event for the UFC, and those that don't tune in will definitely be missing out.

Michael McDonald lost his opponent for next week's UFC 139 event when Johnny Eduardo suffered an injury this week. Now, the exciting young bantamweight will welcome newcomer Alex Soto to the UFC on the card.

McDonald revealed the new opponent on Twitter in an exchange with Urijah Faber, saying he's excited to fight a "scrapper" as he's "tired of decisions."

The 20-year-old McDonald has already racked up a 13-1 career record, and has avenged the only loss on his record in the midst of a six fight winning streak.

Soto enters the UFC with a 6-0-1 record, having notched the draw in his last fight at DEEP 54 against Seiji Akao. Of his six wins, only one fight has gone to the judges.

Tim Kennedy talks moustaches, veterans and his next fight

Tim Kennedy talks moustaches, veterans and his next fightTim Kennedy is waiting for word on his next fight, but in the meantime, the Strikeforce middleweight is spending his time training and growing a mustache. He spoke with Cagewriter about the Stache Bash, Veteran's Day and the future of his MMA career.

Kennedy, an Army veteran, teamed up with Marine and UFC fighter Brian Stann and Ranger Up CEO Nick Palmisciano to figure out a way to raise money for veterans. They knew about Movember, an initiative to use mustaches to raise awareness for prostate and testicular cancer, and wanted to tweak the concept.

"We like soldiers more than we like balls and butts. Soldiers can have mustaches and get involved, and it was a good excuse to grow a mustache," Kennedy said.

Over the course of November, Kennedy and Stann will compete with other teams of fighters and MMA industry people to both have the best mustaches and raise the most money for Soldiers' Angels and Hire Heroes. Both groups support veterans.

Kennedy and Stann lead Team America. They think you should give your money towards their team.

"We're the most scary guys out there. We can not only kill you with our hands, but we can shoot you from really far away, and not too far away, and kind of far away. I think the biggest thing is that we have the most emotional investment in this. We want to see this succeed because we know the actual troops that are needing the support. For us, it's about wanting to see the guys we love and care about get what they deserve."

As a sniper with the Army's Special Forces, Kennedy served in Iraq. He knows more than most people about the kind of sacrifice veterans make, and he wants to honor them.

"We've been at war for 10 years. People talk about the greatest generation. My grandfather served in World War II. He was one of the most remarkable men in my life, but we have a new generation of superstars. Guys that have been away from their family for years and I want them to get the recognition that they deserve. They have sacrificed everything. They've done it for a really long time. They deserve everything that they're not getting."

With Veterans Day tomorrow, Kennedy would like to see all Americans find a way to say thank you to the men and women who serve.

"You see a guy in uniform, you're going to buy him lunch. You see a guy in uniform at the airport that's coming back from overseas, you walk up and give him a hug. There's almost the apathetic, complacent view of the military like they're just doing their job. .45 percent of the population volunteer to do this, and 99.55 percent reap the rewards from those few. It's only fair that the only 99.55 percent tip their cap and show appreciation for this group."

Though Kennedy is spending time raising money for veterans, he also is concentrating on training. He has not fought since July, and like many Strikeforce fighters, is waiting to see what's next.

"I'm training as if I have a fight coming up, but I don't have a fight coming up. I have no clue on when a fight will come up. I'm preparing for one, hopefully they'll give me word soon, but there's no telling."

He is not picky on which promotion hosts his next bout.

"I just want to fight good guys. I don't care what promotion it's under as long as it's the best guys. I'm only going to be fighting for a little bit longer, and so I want to fight the best guys before I'm done."

ROUNDTABLE: Grades for UFC 138 "Leben vs. Munoz" - Hansen, Hyden, Perez, Hobaugh, and Ennis

UFC_138_poster_180_4.jpg
Grade Saturday's UFC 138 event

RICH HANSEN, MMATORCH COLUMNIST

In a vacuum, I liked the show well enough to give it a B. But on a curve graded against the ProElite show I suffered through on Saturday night, I give it an Aplusplus plusplusplusplusplus. Don't worry, that's my last shot on that show (for more, CLICK HERE). UFC 138 delivered exciting fights, a really good main event, 5/5 main card fights withfinishes, comebacks by Terry Etim and Thiago Alves, and a breakthrough performance by Renan Barao. Other than divisional relevance, nothing was missing from this card. Of course, the lack of any truly relevant fights is why this card got a B and not an A.

FRANK HYDEN, MMATORCH CONTRIBUTOR

I thought it was a good show, but not great. Considering it was free here in the U.S. I would give it a B. Had it been a pay-per-view I would give it a C-. There wasn't much on the show that you couldn't get for free on another show, no title fights or even fights with title implications. It was fair.

ANWAR PEREZ, MMATORCH COLUMNIST

I will give UFC 138 a solid B. I was thoroughly entertained, as all the fights were top notch, even though the lack of "star power" was not with this card. Events like this proves that sometimes, especially in the fight game, star power is not needed once you have a group of fighters that bring it in the cage and go hard for three rounds. A solid performance, both for the fighters and the UFC.

ERIC HOBAUGH, MMATORCH CONTRIBUTOR

I give it a solid B. There were several actual finishes and the main event was great. Except for the lack of big names, it was a good event. How many pay per view cards have we had that were not as good? A few for sure.

SHAWN ENNIS, MMATORCH COLUMNIST

I think if it were more significant as far as ramifications, it'd be an A, but I've got to go with a B. This was an extremely entertaining event, but the problem is that we don't know what any of it means. I want Renan Barao to get a Bantamweight Title shot post-haste, but who knows where he actually stands? Mark Munoz took a step up with his impressive win, but is he a number one contender? Is he in line for a contender fight? Who knows? that's my problem with the event. We can guess all we want what the next step is for these guys, but there was no narrative going into the show about what it all means. That's always been my biggest gripe with the lead up to the UFC's shows, and it was certainly no different here. Now, all that having been said, this was a lot of fun to watch. In the end, that's one of the more important aspects of an event, so a B is a pretty good grade if you ask me.

Is Mark Munoz Really Ready For A Shot At Anderson Silva?

By MATT MOLGAARD
MMANEWS.COM Staff Writer

When former NCAA wrestling champion Mark Munoz made the transition from the WEC to the UFC, expectations were high for the promising but undersized light heavyweight. A devastating high kick from Matt Hamill at UFC 96 rendered Munoz unconscious and expectations crumbled. But "The Filipino Wrecking Machine" was anything but done.

The decisive defeat prompted a wise decision in the form of a drop to 185 pounds, where Munoz would no longer be a naturally undersized competitor. The plan panned out, as Munoz turned a miserable debut around quickly, earning three consecutive victories at middleweight, including a second round stoppage over former ?The Ultimate Fighter? winner, Kendall Grove. Things looked promising, and that brutal knockout sustained at 205 pounds was little more than a fading memory, until Munoz ran into perennial middleweight contender, Yushin Okami.

The two met at UFC Live 2 on August 1st of 2010. Though competitive, Okami gave Munoz fits inside the cage, and exited with the win, once more knocking Munoz down a peg. But if there?s anything we?ve learned about Munoz, it?s that he can never be ruled out of a bout before it transpires. The Reign MMA representative would go on to prove that in his next four bouts.

The first man to be victimized on the road to Munoz?s redemption was fellow wrestling standout, Aaron Simpson, who found himself thoroughly outworked at UFC 123. The fight knocked Simpson from contender consideration, and breathed new life into the career of Munoz.

Another Spike reality star would oppose the California resident in his following bout; C.B. Dollaway was tapped to collide with Munoz at UFC Live 3, and given the Arizonian?s wrestling background and diversified attack, many viewed the fight as a potential dead-heat. It was not to be so; Munoz disposed of "The Doberman" in just 54 seconds with an onslaught of brutal strikes.

With a second quality victory under his belt, Munoz was offered a bout with the always dangerous Demian Maia, a talented submission artist who's managed to submit eight of the fifteen foes he's toppled. The bout unfolded at UFC 131, and was quite competitive; many felt as though Maia did enough to earn the judges nod, but Munoz exited the cage the owner of another win at middleweight.

Last weekend saw Munoz once again take to the octagon, this time in preparation to tangle with the rugged near-impossible to stop, Chris Leben. While Leben implored his traditional plodding attack, Munoz offered a diverse arsenal, capitalizing on his strong wrestling background and dangerous ground-and-pound. After ten full minutes of action, Leben headed to his corner anticipating third round action, however a nasty cut over the left eyelid left "The Crippler's" vision hindered, and the fight was waved off; the result being a fourth consecutive victory at 185 pounds for Munoz, who now aligns himself for a potential title shot.

But is Mark Munoz truly ready?

He's toppled stellar wrestlers in Dollaway and Simpson, defeated one of the division's most feared submission specialists in Maia and now disposed of one of the hardest punchers to meet the middleweight requirement. But Munoz's current run still lacks a little luster, as the "Elite" name victory still evades the tough prospect. A win over Rousimar Palhares, Yushin Okami or Chael Sonnen is the missing piece of the puzzle now, and in order for Mark to make legitimate claim to the challenger's position, he must topple one of those mountains.

Should Mark manage a victory in any one of the three aforementioned scenarios, I'd consider him well prepared for the war monger known as Anderson "The Spider" Silva.
